Dubai, UAE - In a monumental move, Wasl, a prominent local developer, has awarded a staggering AED4.4 billion ($1.2 billion) construction contract to China State Construction Engineering Corporation, based in Beijing. This development marks Dubai's largest construction contract since 2017, when local contractor Alec secured the $1.36 billion contract for One Zabeel, defeating fellow developer Ithra.

Dubai's Construction Sector On the Rise

The contract award comes at a time of renewed optimism in Dubai's project market. Recently, the emirate greenlit the $4.9 billion Blue Line expansion to the Dubai Metro system on November 24, signaling a positive trend in the region's construction landscape.

Unveiling The Island: A Project of Grandeur

Situated on a sprawling 10.5-hectare island near Marsa al-Arab, The Island project is set to redefine luxury living and entertainment. Boasting affiliations with renowned property brands such as MGM, Bellagio, and Aria, The Island holds the potential to become a hub for leisure and hospitality.

A Glimpse into The Island's Features

The Island is strategically located near iconic landmarks such as the Jumeirah Beach Hotel and the Jumeirah public beach, off the coast of Umm Suqeim. With plans for 1,400 hotel rooms, apartments, and dedicated spaces for dining, shopping, and entertainment, the project aims to create a vibrant and dynamic destination.

Key Players in The Island's Construction

The earthworks for The Island will be undertaken by the local APCC, while Buro Kling Architectural Engineering Consultants, headquartered in Germany, takes on the role of principal consultant and structural consultant. HSS is also involved as a consultant in this ambitious project.

As The Island project gains momentum, eyes are on the possibility of it hosting casinos, contingent upon the enactment of gambling-related legislation in the United Arab Emirates. MGM's global presence in the casino industry adds an intriguing dimension to the project's potential future.

In conclusion, the collaboration between Wasl and China State Construction Engineering Corporation marks a pivotal moment in Dubai's construction history, setting the stage for The Island to emerge as a groundbreaking development in the heart of the emirate.
